It’s been a rough 2 weeks, hasn’t it? Prepping up incase you bump into a sauced pseudo-celeb at Barney’s might be fun, but it takes a lot of energy- plus you’ve got that 9-5! (read: 11-4).
Go out and use the free booze to justify buying something you really can’t afford. But tomorrow, when you’re hung over a slumming it, stop by the Gag Free Store and swap yourself something nice to ease the buyer’s remorse.
I’m super excited for Gag, it was inspired by the San Francisco Diggers and perfectly fits every budget (interpretive value swapping).

I am not an athletically inclined lady but I love faux athletic clothing (see: riding pants). I suspect my passion for unnecessary sportswear might be behind my interest in Sporting Life at the FIT Museum.
This fun exhibit explores historic and occasionally impractical interpretations of athletic wear for the WASPiest of sports. Seriously, gentile readers, click the link and if you don’t feel compelled to see the exhibit you’ll at least be inspired to make some really regrettable drunk internet shopping decisions.

I’ll be the first to admit it: Africolor, at Danziger Projects, really makes me want to wear things I just can’t pull off. Reminder to self: Kente is not for white girls.
This exhibit explores color in African dress and has an incredible vibe. Ruud Van Empel’s paintings are incredibly rich and you can taste the air in Daniele Tamagni’s photography. The over all effect is wild and cool and a little bit 70’s.
ps. maybe just a lil kente…

Culture isn’t just stuffy old buildings full of art: The Highline is one of my favorite examples of historic repurposing. Sure, it’s easy to get down on the superficiality of the meatpacking district but the regeneration of the neighborhood really was incredible.
Speaking of changes: the weather is about to change. So, if you’d like to enjoy The Highline before sweater season you should stop by UNIQLO’s Roller Rink. It’s definitely the best pop up I’ve heard buzz about!

When Prada acquired Helmut Lang in 2004, the designer left the business entirely. After a fire in his New York studio last year, Lang was left with only remnants of the archives of his renowned fashion career.
On August 8th The Fireplace Project opened Helmut Lang: Make it Hard, the designer’s sculptural project in which he reworked the shredded and charred remains of his archives into column-like structures that stretch from floor to ceiling.
The Fireplace Project is located in East Hampton yet if this surprising exhibit isn’t enough to draw you out, you can also sun yourself on the beach and check out how the far end of the island is faring after the weekend.

Let’s be real New York: The weather lately has been atrocious. Don’t you just want to curl up and watch a movie? Well, if you’d like to sound impressive and current while you’re boozing next week at a pop up store you’re just going to have to toughen up.
You can console yourself, however, by prepurchasing some tickets to see a showing in the Vanity Fair Fashion in Film series at the Museum of Arts and Design. The theater is insanely beautiful, but who scheduled Qui Êtes-Vous, Polly Magoo? at 9 on a Friday? That’s clearly disco nap time.

The Morgan Library’s Illuminating Fashion: Dress in the Art of Medieval France and the Netherlands will be ending on September 4th, so now is definitely the time to check it out.
My soft spot for all things medieval has always attracted a lot of criticism. I feel that this blog might not be the right forum for me to share my knowledge on fascinating techniques of information transfer in a commonly illiterate society, yet I do think it’s the right forum for me to share my knowledge on super sexy medieval stylz.
ps. That is one of my all time favorite collections.
pps. Just incase you actually wanted to learn about medieval information transfer.
